TOO MUCH WORK NOT ENOUGH FUN

“Anyone who knew my friend, Myra Rodbell, would agree that she had a big personality! She needed it to encourage herself to keep the reins of her complicated life in her hands

Myra loved having long conversations with friends and strangers, singing, dancing (with a partner or alone). She enjoyed the energy of crowds. It was no surprise that she embraced the entertainment community with gusto when she decided to become a D.J. at private and community events. She excelled at keeping a lively atmosphere and plenty of dancers on the floor.

I was surprised when she told me that she was beginning to experience many effects from childhood diabetes. She was concerned especially that she would lose her vision. In time she could no longer drive or go out alone.

Typical of Myra, she didn’t surrender to the inconveniences of life. Instead, she organized her large group of friends to help her along.

With more time at home, Myra began writing lyrics for a song. She showed me her first efforts and I thought she had talent. Since I was a writer too, she asked me to edit/arrange the lyrics to polish off the project. With that completed, a local band Myra admired recorded a demo-copy of the lyrics set to music to help her introduce the lyrics to the music world.

The time came when Myra's diabetes progressed to the point that she realized that she might not see the lyrics published. She asked me if I would make sure that happened. I promised I would, and I did!"
